Security Bank services back to normal now

Banking operations of the Security Bank returned to normal Thursday following completion of its system maintenance, a day after it was saddled by delays in the posting of banking transactions.

“Security Bank is pleased to inform our valued customers that our maintenance activity has been completed and all services that were affected by the delay are now available,” the bank said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the bank said it “encountered a delay in posting banking transactions on our systems” but assured clients’ that their deposits remained safe.

This prompted the bank to extend the operations of its branches up to 7 p.m. to service the requirements of its clients.

The problem in the Security Bank’s system happened a few days after some customers of Sy-led Banco de Oro Unibank Inc. claimed of losing money due to automated teller machine (ATM) skimming and weeks after Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Island said internal system glitch caused erroneous reporting of their account holders’ transactions between April 28 and May 2, 2017.

Skimming is done by inserting a device on the ATM card slot that reads data stored in the card. ATM owners have a hard time distinguishing a skimming device because it looks similar to the card slot. (Joann Santiago/PNA)
