Indonesia unveils spicy cuisine in cooking lessons

The Republic of Indonesia unveiled its spicy cuisine during the 5th Indonesian Cooking Lessons that was successfully held at the residence of Consul general of Republic of Indonesia Ecoland Drive, Ecoland Phase-4, Davao City on November 29.

In an email statement, consul general Berlian Napitupulu said the guests managed to discover the spiced flavors of Indonesian well known cuisine. The cooking lessons offered a fascinating introduction in to the exotic ingredients and unique culinary heritage of Indonesian.

“The lessons provided a valuable insight on how to prepare some Indonesian food that being introduced during the Cooking Lessons,” said Napitupulu.

According to Napitupulu, the cooking lessons is an attempt to introduce the Indonesian cuisine to the Philippines’ market.

“More than that, the event attempts to open opportunity and access for Indonesian food in the Philippines’ market, especially for Mindanao,” he said. “We expect that Indonesian food and beverage to be more recognized and sellable in the restaurant, store, hotels, malls, and food court all over Mindanao.”

The cooking lessons have two participants and guests invited to prepare the Indonesian cuisines, Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles prepared the Sate AyamMadura. Chef Alex with Chef Joy from Marco Polo Hotel prepared Ikan Bumbu Acar Kuning.

The Indonesian Consulate has partnered with the Marco Polo Davao and had agreed on a deal to  teach the chefs on how to prepare and cook Indonesian food.

“These dishes are originally from Indonesia and we teach the Marco Polo chefs how to make it so they can serve it in their hotel,” he said.

These are the dishes:

Sate Ayam Madura (Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce) Sate Ayam Madura is probably what come to most people’s mind when Sate is mentioned. In Indonesia there are a lot of Sate varieties. Sate Ayam Madura is very famous as one of the typical cuisine of the archipelago. Sate is quite popular with its appetizing peanut sauce.

Ikan Bumbu Acar Kuning Fish is flexible enough to be processed into various dishes. One of the fish is quite seductive fish is Ikan Bumbu Acar Kuning (Yellow Pickled Seasoning Fish). Ikan Bumbu Acar Kuning named so because it is served fish sprinkled with yellow pickle seasoning with topping in the form of carrots, cucumbers, or pineapple.

Kue Nagasari is one of the traditional cakes that comes from Java island. This cake wrapped with banana leaves is included into the category of wet cake. KueNagasari has a taste that is so sweet and delicious. Bananas which are used as content has a texture that is so soft and smooth.

“ This event we can let the Philippines especially the expert chef get to learn about our dish and we hope that Indonesian food and beverage to be more recognized and sellable in the Davao City and help to find an opportunity or support if there is a potential to establish Indonesian Restaurant.” he said

At the end of every introduction session, all Chefs and guests are invited to enjoy Indonesian foods, including the one prepared during the Lesson. By learning about the process on how to prepare the dishes, the guest would encouraged to practice and flourish their knowledge about Indonesian Cuisine and how to prepare them, and at the end, they will put the dishes on their menu.
