Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (Apo Agua), a joint venture company between Aboitiz Equity Ventures and J.V. Angeles Construction Corporation (JVACC) is currently progressing with the construction of the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) of Davao City Water District (DCWD).
The major works being conducted by JVACC, the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, are in two separate sites in Baguio District. In Brgy. Gumalang, excavation works are ongoing for the different structures within the water treatment facility. In Brgy.
Tawantawan, preparation works are ongoing for the construction of the weir. The weir will allow for the water to flow through without obstruction and divert a portion of the water towards the project’s pipeline.
Laying of treated water pipes is targeted to commence in October 2019. The 60-kilometer treated water pipeline will start from the water treatment facility and end in DCWD’s five existing water systems namely, Dumoy, Calinan, Tugbok, Panacan, and Cabantian, as well as three additional new water systems at Talandang, Mandug, and Indangan.
Apo Agua General Manager Ones Almario said, “We have an aggressive timeline. We will maximize the available time we are allowed by the city and barangay local government units to perform our construction activities. We are also seeking the assistance of the local government in the quick issuance of necessary permits particularly excavation permits.”
Workplace safety is always at the forefront of the project since the start of its construction activities. Last April 2019, the DCBWSP has reached 500,000 safe man-hours without lost-time incident. This is a significant milestone of the project which as of June, employs a total of 418 laborers and skilled workers who are mostly from its host barangays namely, Gumalang, Wines, Tawantawan, Tambobong, and Tamugan.
“We thank the Local Government of Davao for their support in the project. Together with DCWD and JVACC, we are one with the City Government in ensuring the long-term security of the city’s water supply,” Almario said.
Apo Agua began its three-year construction phase with engineering design works in 2018 and targets to commence operations by the first half of 2021.
