From manufacturing weighing scales, the Policarpio business empire has ventured into hospitality and recently opened Blue Lotus Hotel Davao.
The Policarpios are behind the country’s biggest and multi-awarded weighing scale company, the First Philippine Scales Inc (FPSI) that manufactures wide variety of weighing devices carrying the Fuji weighing scale brand.
From the original plan of setting up a showroom for their weighing scales in the 2,000-square meter property they owned along Quimpo Boulevard in Ecoland, the Policarpio family instead opted to build a seven-floor hotel.
“Nanghihinayang ako dito sa puwesto kung showroom lang. Maganda naman ang location dito sa Davao at maganda ang surroundings kaya naisipan namin na gumawa ng hotel,” said Amparo Policarpio, president of Blue Lotus Hotel in an interview.
Blue Lotus Hotel offers 133 brand new rooms, modern amenities from gadgets and technology to in-house entertainment. Designed as eco-friendly hotel, it uses LED lighting, harnesses solar power and harvests rainwater for hotel use. It is also built with the high-tech and energy-saving VRV air-conditioning system that self –regulates and personalizes guests cooling preferences.
The hotel is being positioned as venue for small and medium-sized meetings, seminars, conferences, special events, dinners, weddings, and more. It offers eight function rooms that can accommodate up to 400 people theatre-style.
Policarpio said the opening of the hotel aims to generate jobs, improve tourism, and increase tax payment in Davao City.
“This is our first time to venture into hotel business. There may be something that still needs improvement, we appreciate your feedback. There maybe imperfections during your stay here, please accept our apology,” Policarpio said.
Their flagship brand Fuji was named after Mt. Fuji in Japan. In the early 80s the company expanded and transferred offices and plants from Caloocan to Malabon. It was in 2002 when the company opened its first branch in Davao City.
“We manufacture, import, sale, export, repair, convert and customized all kinds of weighing scale. The Fuji brand is our product,” Policarpio said.
The company is serving throughout the Philippines and is exporting to Japan customers as well as New Zealand and Mauricius.
