The Department of Agriculture XI (DA XI) will launch the Integrated National Swine Production Initiative for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) on areas affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).
Regional Executive Director Abel James Monteagudo of DA XI disclosed during the One Davao virtual presser that the agency allotted more than PhP 300 million for the INSPIRE project for Davao Region.
A total of 44 associations in the region will benefit the project, he added.
“As now, naa nay na-identify nga modawat ani. Naa mi task force gihimo para magsuroy and nagvalidate nami sa mga associations,” he underscored. (As of now, we have identified the beneficiaries. There is a task force created to go on field, and they already validated the associations.)
The regional DA chief stressed that each association will receive a total of PhP 5.5 million worth of hog raising facility, including the infrastructure, and initial hogs and feeds.
“Ang kinahanglan nalang sa association is silay mogahin o silay moassign sa area kay dili man apil dinha ang pagpalit sa yuta,” Monteagudo said. (The beneficiary-association just needs to identify or assign the area for the facility, because the purchase of a lot is not included in the program.)
Since February 2020, a total of 57,085 hogs were depopulated in the region affecting 10,790 farmers from 254 barangays in 49 municipalities.
Director Monteagudo also bared that DA XI will have two mobile disinfecting trucks worth around PhP 5 million this year for additional measures against ASF.
“Actually ang gamit ani, let’s say na naay nagdeclare nga naay symptoms or naay ningbuto sa ubang region (on ASF), iparking na siya (sa border). Mas maayo ni kaysa sa wheel bath.” (This will be used, let’s say, there is a declaration of symptoms in an area or there is an outbreak in other region, the vehicle will be parked at the border. This is better than the wheel bath). (PIAXI/ Michael Uy)
