Despite the rise in prices of commodities, the Philippine economy will continue to rebound.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos made the assurance to more than 500 marginalized individuals and members of peoples organizations in Davao City during his distribution of various government assistance.
The President handed over billions worth of pooled government assistance generated from the regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Agriculture, among others.
“So I hope that this will somehow mitigate the shocks. Kasi ‘yung mga pangyayari, ‘yung pagtaas ng gasolina, ‘yung taas ng sa lahat ng produkto ng petrolyo ay galing talaga sa labas ‘yan,” he said attributing the current hikes in prices of fuel as relative impact of the global economy outside the country.
He made them understand that the Philippine economy is in a much better position of recovering, compared with other countries of even large economies.
He cited as positive factor to bank on the resilient Filipino people who continue to diligently work hard.
“Dahil ang lagi nating inaasahan ang ating mga kababayan na Pilipino na napakagaling, napakasipag, napakatiyaga. At dahil diyan ay magiging — maliwanag sa akin na magiging tuloy-tuloy ang pagbabangon natin,” he said.
Though he viewed the distributed assistance as cushion to “financial shocks” , President Marcos also considered those government aids as a continuing assistance to recover from the adverse impact of the pandemic.
He pointed out the need for both the national and local government to still consider extending assistance to the marginalized as the country’s economy has yet to fully recover.
“Kaya ito’y sa isang bahagi ng pagtulong ng gobyerno at sana naman mabigyan kayo ng kaunting ginhawa. At least for a while, may masimulan kayo,” he said.
He viewed this area of concern on continued assistance to the marginalized, as a point of convergence and unity to even help more.
“Ito nakikita natin kapag talaga ating [isasabuhay] ‘yang mga salitang ‘yan ay magiging mas maganda talaga ang resulta dahil tayo’y nagtutulungan. Mas marami tayong magagawa, mas marami tayong matutulungan,” the President said. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive D. Abangan)
