The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) directed BSP-Supervised Financial Institutions (BSFIs) to accept all formats of the national identification (ID), including the digital format.
BSP Memorandum 2024-026, dated Aug. 9 and posted on the central bank’s website on Monday, mandates BSFIs to accept all formats of the national ID as an official government-issued identification document and a valid and primary proof of identity, subject to authentication.
Launched on June 10, the digital national ID is the official digital version that can be easily accessible through computers or smartphones with an internet connection.
It contains the owner’s national ID card number, digital ID number and basic demographic information, such as the front-facing photograph, full name, date of birth, present address, gender, blood type, marital status, and the Quick Response (QR) code.
Aside from accepting all formats of the national ID, all BSFIs are required to use the national ID check (https://everify.gov.ph/check) to verify the authenticity.
“BSFIs are also encouraged to integrate with the National ID System through an application to the National ID Authentication Services,” the BSP said.
The National ID Check website allows users to verify and authenticate the Digital National ID by scanning the QR code.
“The PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) advised that this website is recommended for low-risk transactions. To ensure higher assurance of verification, RPs (relying parties) are strongly encouraged to onboard with the PSA through an application with the National ID Authentication Services via the National ID eVerify,” the BSP said.
