The world we live in is sick.
The society we live in is also sick.
Hypocrites, neo-Machiavellian schemers and plotters abound, conspirators and liars alike are in the mix among the few who are not.
Hypocrisy, as defined in the dictionary, is “falsely pretending to possess virtues, beliefs, etc. Therefore, a hypocrite is one who pretends to be what he or she is not.
(In Jesus Christ’s time, that would be a Pharisee.)
Therefore, it follows that hypocrites are liars.
Lying is the act of speaking untruthful statements with the intent to deceive or to create a false impression.
With these definitions, one can easily discern based on personal observations and experience with social contacts, that a cult of hypocrisy and lying is already established and progressively moving in our midst.
Why am I making this assumption?
The truth that we seek is today clouded by the hovering mists of pretense, propaganda and the proliferation of lies and counterfeit news intended to discredit the incumbent government.
Nowhere in our democratic existence have we seen and felt today the coercive influence of the conspiratorial mainstream media – local and foreign – to bring down the walls of duly-constituted authority in collusion with the political opposition that is dying to grab back power and re-install the degenerative status quo.
The on-going anti-government offensive from within and without is obviously tearing apart our people who traditionally are identified by political affiliation and loyalty and by geo-ethnic origins, resulting in unwanted polarization.
These anti-government blitzkriegs have pitiful and destructive consequences.
One, if it comes to a tipping point, these antis want to force the hand of the President to declare martial law that would emulate, in one way, the monumental error that the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos committed during his term.
Second, as these anti-government protests and marches continue, they inflict on the people to make a difficult choice based on their political affiliation and loyalty and on their geo-ethnic origins as to which side they pledge their allegiance. If, again, this causes a tipping point, the conflagration of emotions may lead to a bloody civil war, pitting Filipinos against fellow Filipinos, an occurrence that we may all pitifully regret.
Make no mistake about this.
The hypocrites and the liars – although they are but a disgruntled few – among us are working feverishly with their rich foreign backers to overthrow the incumbent regime based on a timeline.
The crescendo by which their evil designs go are magnified by the articulation of their offensive in foreign forums. This includes petitions filed with the ICC, UNCHR and the UN body itself, not to say their penetration of various Fil-American organizations in their speaking engagements in the entire US and Canada.
It is good that the Chief Executive’s iron will to do what is right is not easily broken and cowed. He has vehemently exercised his constitutional duties in a manner befitting the presidency. To the opposition’s consternation, the president has been able to defend and shield his office from the unrelenting vitriolic attacks.
Hypocrites and liars come from the devil’s tribe. They hate the truth. Like when he sees a Christian carrying and reading the Bible, the devil flees and faints when confronted with the truth.
As German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, known for his work The World as Will and Representation, said: “All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.”
The hypocrites and liars simply want to overthrow the Duterte government.
