The local government unit of Lianga, Surigao del Sur will receive its Tourism Master Development Plan from the Diggs-Jansen Development Corp. on October 17, during the municipality’s 98th founding anniversary celebration.
Tourism consultant and Edge Davao contributor Jonallier M. Perez said the event will bewitnessed by a 10-person delegation composed of Davao del Norte-based Ms Araceli Lanoy-Ayuste, president of the Mindanao Tourism Council, members of the MTC board, Mindanao traditional media practitioners and leading digital media influencers.
Perez said the crafting of the tourism road map constitutes the first phase of the engagement. Subsequent phases will
involve tourism-related infrastructure projects, product development as well as coaching-mentoring of the local officials by the Mindanao Tourism Council.
The third element will ensure that at least 80 percent of the plan, as an organic document, will be implemented.
Among the guiding principles that heavily influenced the newly crafted plan are the following: 1. Minimized economic leakage by ensuring through guidelines that at least 40 percent of the total volume of tourist expenditures are retained by the local host community. 2. At least 80 percent local outsourcing of materials and human resource through preferential employment of local people in all tourism-oriented projects and activities. 3. Non-exploitation of the indigenous Manobo community and marginalized sectors. 4. Spreading of socio-economic benefits of the local tourism industry even to communities not particularly blessed with natural attractions by converting them into Tourism Support Communities (e.g. production of souvenir products, etc.).
