USEP Rotaract members launch feeding program

by Ma. Ira Louise Santos
The Rotaract Club of South Davao (University of Southeastern Philippines Chapter) launched its feeding program last August 13 at the Pres. Elpidio Quirino Elementary School in Barrio Obrero, this city.
Club president Ma. Christina Frans Briones led the Rotaractors in the execution of the nutritional project. All the schoolchildren in grade one, numbering 100, were the beneficiaries of the program.
With resources raised from its various income-generating projects, the Rotaractors, following a survey, chose the Quirino Elementary School not only for its proximity to USEP, but also for the presence of many malnourished children in the school.
On the day of the feeding, the teachers helped supervise the children who eagerly stood in line,  cups and bowls in their hands, as they waited their turn.
Implemented twice monthly, the feeding program will continue with five more sessions alternately serving the schoolchildren with porridge, champorado, arroz caldo and binignit. The kids will also receive assorted canned goods and snack items provided by Virginia Food Products.
School principal Joyce Bonsobre thanked the Rotaractors for their food project.
Other officers who joined in the feeding of the children were club secretary: Olive Joy Grumo, treasurer: Ryzabeth Silagan and president-elect: Alfredo Zabate Jr.
Rotary-Rotaract scholar Ma. Ira Louise Santos, together with the other aspirants who included John Ray Lu, Dariel Padilla, Aaron Rholand Recio, Ariel Comiling, Mario Sentorias, Jed Perez, Rewin Pilongco, and Eric Macapayad, also lent a hand in carrying out the feeding program by doing chores like carrying the cooking pots and washing, cleaning the kitchenware.
Every month, the USEP Rotaractors, with the support of the Rotary Club of South Davao, their mother club, roll up their sleeves to work on their many outreach community projects. The latest successful feeding program was only one of the activities they have lined up for the community.
