Simultaneous with the opening of the Kadayawan celebration, Davaoeños welcomed a new representative for the Miss Silka Philippines as a 17 year old candidate from Ulas took home the title as “Miss Silka Davao 2018”.
Tricia Marie Siy outshone 14 other contenders during the Coronation Night at the Abreeza Mall Activity Center, Friday evening.
Her winning answer in the question and answer (Q&A) portion stands for women’s rights against sexual assault.
“What really bothers me on what’s happening in our country is the increasing rape cases. Because I stand for women’s rights, and I believe that it is never the women’s fault for being too showy or too conservative. It is the rapist’s fault for not being able to control himself and I believe that we should not teach women, but (rather) the men to control themselves,” Siy answered.
Not only did she got to take home the cash prize of P35,000 with a plaque, sash and the crown, she will also represent Davao City in the nationwide Miss Silka Philippines during the last quarter of the year.
Joining Siy are the Silka Queens of the Night: 1st runner up is Danielle Andrea Ibaos, 2nd runner up is Iris Jule Escalicas and 3rd runner up is Fatima Manubag.
Before the announcement of the top 7 finalists, reigning Miss Silka Davao 2018 title holder Regine Anillo took her final walk.
Also one of the judges is Miss Silka Phillipines 2016 Katrina Anne Johnson who is the first Davaoeña and Mindanaoan crown holder of the said competition.
“It’s just a big honor to ever win the Miss Silka Phillipines title. I felt humble that I was able to give back to the people of Mindanao; that I finally give justice, so that we could show our beauty and how we take care of ourselves,” Johnson said in an interview.
Aside from being Miss Silka Davao, Siy took home the Best In Swimwear award. Other special awardees are Bea Bernadette Rubite for Best in Long Gown, 1st runner up Danielle Andrea Ibaos for Best in Talent and Miss Silka Highest Vote, 3rd runner up Fatima Manubag for Miss Mary Kay, Jayvee Lyn Lorejo for Miss Photogenic and Hychacint Alegre for Miss Juicy Cologne.
Johan Santos of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up was also there to serenade the lovely candidates.
