Silang, Cavite—- Empowered Women is one governing rule that exist in the institution. PNPA does not only regard RA 9710 as an established rule but also corroborates its implementation thru initiatives and measures to recognize, protect and promote female cadets to be at par with their male counterparts to be future public safety leaders of the country.
PCSUPT Jose Chiquito M Malayo said that a total of six (6) female cadets composed the Top 10 graduating 201 cadets. A total 47 female cadets of the total cadets of the PNPA SANSIKLAB (SANdigan ng mamayan na may SIgasig na itaguyod and Kapayapaan at ipagLAban and Bayan) Class of 2019 will graduate on March 19, 2019.
Female cadets since 1995 have proven themselves in the field of law enforcement, fire safety and jail rehabilitation. Female public safety officers are given the same roles like all other public safety officers and excelled in their own field of expertise.
This year; Police Cadet Merriefin Longcob Carisusa a farmers’ daughter from Medellin, Cebu top her class on the number 2 spot as Vice-Presidential Kampilan awardee. Other awards for Cadet Carisusa are: Journalism Kampilan, Best in Public Safety and Best in Leadership Management. She graduated BS Psychology from the UP Cebu then joined the PNPA cadetship program to follow her dreams.
PNPA started accepting female cadets since May 1993 and had its first female graduate with the class “PATNUBAY” of 1995. In 2009, PNPA recorded the first female cadet to graduate at the Top of her class, Cadet Roan Marie D Bascugin, raising the women’s status in the male dominated organization. Other female Top Graduates this year are: Fire Cadet Mary Grace M Pabilario, Top 3; Fire Cadet Janila Andrea M Garan; Police Cadet Ciara Ley L Capule; Police Cadet Mary Ann B Delos Santos; Police Cadet Anna May P Mangabo.
PNPA as a government institution will continuously recruit more female applicants to join the PNPA Cadetship Program to increase the existing 20% proportion of male and female cadets and to have a better & cohesive Gender Mainstreaming in the academy.
