For yet another time, Manny Pacquiao has given the nation not just happiness and pride but more importantly, inspiration for people to rise above limits.
The boxing icon and lawmaker, at age 40, proved to the rest of the world that yes, he is no longer young. And yes, he is not as fast. But yes, too, at age 40 he can be good at what he does. Everyone can too.
The message of Senator Pacquiao’s triumph teaches us to believe in ourselves despite the odds we are facing, and despite what people are naysaying. Manny battled age, physical limits that most men succumb to.
The message of triumph can be equated to the fight against poverty which the Filipino boxing legend also went through and conquered.
But like Manny, all of the essential elements must concur and cooperate. In his case, his mind, muscles and heart. In the case of this country, overcoming poverty requires too everyone’s cooperation.
There is no way the country can win over its foes—poverty, crime, corruption, illegal drugs, among others—if all the elements do not work in harmony.
