From ‘no backpacks’ to ‘no jackets.’
It makes sense for the improvement of security, then the new measure implemented by the Task Force Davao at checkpoints to ensure that the bombing incident in Sulu recently, which is believed to be a case of suicide bombing, will not be replicated.
Yes, the new measure is now being implemented in all security checkpoints although TF Davao has yet to coordinate with the Philippine National Police on this new policy.
With the threat of suicide bombing being undertaken by terrorist groups planning to sow terror in Mindanao, Davao City is going a step ahead by ensuring that nothing of that sort will happen. The ‘no jackets’ policy calls for all persons going through the security checks to take off their jackets or vests or any garment meant to possibly conceal weapons or bombs. This is reminiscent of the ‘no jackets’ policy on x-ray checks in major airports in the country and overseas as a means to prevent hidden weapons or explosives.
The implementation of this new policy calls for everyone’s cooperation even if it meant additional time delays and inconvenience during travels or when commuting from one point to another. The bottomline objective of these stringent measures is to ensure the public’s safety. Terror is like a thief in the night. We will never know when it strikes.
