The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), indeed Davao City’s finest, ought to be lauded by grateful Dabawenyos for quickly identifying, arresting and filing an appropriate case in court against a suspect in the two bomb threats in Davao City very recently.
DCPO chief Col. Kirby John Kraft told Edge Davao that the suspect, currently detained, has admitted to be the mastermind behind two letters containing bomb threats. The first letter was left in a vehicle in City Hall in September this year, while the second letter was placed December 20, 2021.
“Yong naglagay ng sulat sa isa sa mga sasakyan sa City Hall, nakunan ng CCTV on December 20, 2021 at 1 p.m. Base sa footage nakita natin yong tao mismo na naglagay ng sulat. Hinanap naming siya at nag conduct ng investigation para ma-identify iyong tao at naaresto natin siya kahapon (the guy who put the letter in one of the vehicles at City Hall was caught by CCTV on December 20, 2021 at 1 p.m. Based on the footage we saw the very person while putting the letter in the car. We looked for him and conducted an investigation to identify the suspect and we arrested him yesterday),” Kraft said.
Kraft said his men are conducting a deeper probe and that they cannot as yet disclose to the public full details of the
case or give the name of the suspect whose background is being thoroughly checked.
For one thing, the suspect has still refused to reveal why he, a Davao City resident, did what he did.
It was also learned that the DCPO probers are also holding a 15-year-old who was asked by the suspect to write the threat letters. The minor also identified the letters as his when shown to him. The suspect, who has reportedly a Christian-sounding name, has allegedly admittedly that he directed the minor to write the letters.
The investigators should take pains in uncovering the reason or reasons of the suspect in putting the bomb threat letters.
Terrorism, a worldwide scourge, in whatever form, must be nipped in the bud wherever it occurs.
