GMA shoots new romcom in Davao

The Kapuso Network is set to mesmerise its viewers once again as it unveils its upcoming primetime offering “I Heart Davao”.

The primetime romantic comedy series top bills multi-talented actress Carla Abellana and versatile Kapuso actor Tom Rodriguez, together with Kapuso heartthrob Benjamin Alves in a unique love triangle set in Davao City.

The return to the small screen of real-life couple Tom  and Carla, I Heart Davao revolves around how Tom’s character Ponce will take the attempted buyout of his family’s cacao farm by the family of Carla’s character Hope. The two will also be facing individual issues – the death of Ponce’s girlfriend, and Hope’s heart transplant. Their story will also take a twist when she discovers that her heart donor was the love of his life.

“We are grateful to have the opportunity to work together,” said Tom during the show’s press conference at the New Asia Restaurant which was also attended by cast members Karla, Ben, Betong Sumaya, and Maey Bautista. “Handog ito sa TomCar fans waiting for a reunion project,” added Carla.

Hot on the heels of renewed interest in Davao, the latest GMA offering aims to further highlight the beauty of the “Land of Promise” and aims to capture the beauty of the city’s sights and sounds as well as its unique culture.

Many scenes of the series will be shot in and around Davao City and most of the dialogue will also feature dialogue in Visayan. “We did many scenes at the Malagos cacao farm and to stay true to Davao, we had to use Bisaya,” said Tom who is a fluent Bisaya speaker.

“We are also excited with our shoot while white-water rafting,” revealed Ben, “It is my first time sa Davao at na-amaze ako dito.”

GMA’s I Heart Davao is directed by Marlon N. Rivera of “Babae sa Septic Tank”, and starts airing on GMA’s Telebabad starting June.
