URBANISSIMO: Sun, sand and fun in Samal

The Visit Davao Fun Sale (VDFS) took to the blue waters of the Davao Gulf and the white sand beaches of Samal last May 7 as the Island Garden City of Samal hosted back-to-back activities.

The day started bright and early as beautifully decorated non-motorised sailboats called paraw lined up at the Villarica dock in Babak to join the Bigiw Regetta. After a quick send off ceremony, the sixteen participants were off, making their way south slowly along the western coast of Samal eventually ending at the public white sand beach of Kaputian.

Going home with the victory was RMPC Beach Resort and Training Center manned by Reneboy Aballe. VDFS Cebu Pacific manned by Felipe Cabase andVDFS BPI Cards piloted by Rodelo Miras came in second and third respectably.

Kaputian Beach was also the venue of the Samal Sand Sculpting Competition which was clearly a crowd drawer. Fourteen teams participated creating intricate masterpieces from the fine white sand of the beach.

Taking home first place was team Warriors ‘03 with their castle creation featuring the Disney movie “Frozen”. Team Island Boys and Island Scrapers came in second and third respectively.

The VDFS is a six-week long, region-wide sale featuring discounted tours, fabulous hotel stays, spa treats, a city-wide sale as well as exciting happenings until May 31. You can check out Visitdavaofunsale.com for more details.
