Connectivity between neighbours seems to be the name of the game these past weeks as the Indonesian Consulate in Davao held the First Indonesian Manufactured Products Expo (IMPE) 2017 last July 22 to 24.at the House of Indonesia.
Timed to coincide with the Davao Investment Conference, the IMPE 2017, features various Indonesian manufacturers of garments, food, construction materials, electronics, and light machinery, and is envisioned to create business initiatives and matchings that will spur direct trade between Davao and Mindanao and Indonesia
Indonesian Consul General for Davao Berlian Napitupulu noted that although there is trade between Indonesia and the Philippines, there is still room for growth and the primary challenge is that many Indonesian products have to be shipped from Indonesia to Singapore and then to Manila before reaching Mindanao.
“This trade expo is designed boost trade relations between Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as spur interest in doing business with Indonesia.” said Napitulu.
He also wants to improve the utilization of the Davao City-General Santos-Bitung, Indonesion Roll-on, Roll-off sea route which at present is finding it challenging to fill up. With the expo, Napitupulu hopes that there will be an improvement in the load factor of the vessel being used in the sea trade route.
Showing support for more intensive Davao-Indonesian friendship, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio visited the event and in her speech envisions more trade between neighbors.
Congratulations to the Consulate of Indonesia in Davao on a job well done widening business horizons for Dabawnyos and Indonesians alike! Terima Kasih!
