Durianburg’s fashion scene has evolved in leaps and bounds through the years. As fashionistas get bombarded by almost limitless fashion choices from local retailers to the international brands, one this is certain though, that is the fashion aesthetic of Davao’s own fashion tzar Alfonso “Boy” Guinoo.
A a part of the Marco Polo Davao’s 20th Anniversary Celebration, the hotel at the heart of Davao staged “Badu”, a fashion and trunk show by Alfonso Guinoo last February 17 at the Cafe Marco. Although officially, by his own words, “retired” a few years back, it may seem that nothing will stop the original purveyor of Mindanao couture from coming out with even more dazzling Mindanao-forward designs.
“Marco Polo Davao has been embracing the Mindanao culture since it opened in 1998. And we are honored to be the partner of Davao’s fashion tzar, Alfonso “Boy” Guinoo in his 68th year in the fashion industry,” said Marco Polo Davao General Manager Dottie Wurgler-Cronin.
The collection featured the indigenous craftsmanship and hand woven fabrics of the lumads in Mindanao taken with a hip and modern twist. Elaborately beaded jackets and vests were paired with denim for a more contemporary look. Tribal patterns were made more hip by mixing and matching with modern silhouettes and cuts. Every piece was a feast for the eyes.
Boy Guinoo’s cross-cultural collection was paired with fabulous KitSilver Jewelry by international jeweler Mila Imson.
Congratulations to Tito Boy and the Marco Polo Davao on highlighting the beauty and diversity of Davao and Mindanao.
