The Royal Mandaya Hotel’s Dia de Amor

Feliz dia San Valentine! It was truly a night oozing with romance at The Royal Mandaya Hotel as Davao’s premier luxury residence celebrated Valentine’s Day at the Kamayo Café and Mezzanine Floor on February 14, 2019.

Spanish vibe embraced the celebration with Spanish flavors giving diners a unique gustatory experience. The hotel lobby was bedecked with Spanish adornments which drew hundreds of Instagram posts.

Although not a traditional Spanish holiday, St. Valentine’s Day in Spain is celebrated, like in most of the countries, with all kinds of sweet heart-shaped gifts, bouquets of flowers, cards, and romantic dinners at fancy restaurants. What’s really interesting about St. Valentine’s Day in Spain is that certain regions have their own versions of the holiday, usually celebrated with great fanfare and peculiar traditions. On this day too, Spain’s carnival season is in full swing and people usually make the most of it with a trip to the Canary Islands, Cadiz, or Sitges, where the country’s most spectacular festivities take place. Expect colorful street parades, unique processions, fireworks, and lots of good times.

That’s exactly the same vibe resonating at TRMH’s Dia de Amor celebration. From the entrance, guests were welcomed at the hotel’s grandiose lobby with flowers shaped into a huge heart.

To complement the sights, sounds of Marachi Spanish music set the mood for a lovely night.

Best of them all, the Spanish cuisine dinner buffet served at the Kamayo Café was the clincher.

The café area was a lovers’ lane under a virtual sky of romantic mood-lighting set up extending up to the Mezzanine Floor.

The guests were serenaded by saxophone artist, Fred Cavan, playing romantic soft music that matched the theme and by the Mariachi Band Los Amigos who entertained the guests with their rendition of Spanish classics. The event was hosted by Carmela Q. Fronteras.

Guests were given choices from the menu for appetizers served on the table.

For dining, there were two choices each for the entrée of Tapas, Salad, and Soup. Each diner picked from Chorizo Salchichon Pan Tumaca or Croquetas de pollo almejas al horno for the Tapas, Ensalada de garbanzos frijoles y tomates secos or ensalada rusa for the salad and gazpacho andaluz cold soup or sopa de mariscos for the soup entrée. On the buffet were the all-time Spanish favorites paella, and gambas to name a few, cooked and prepared by the Chefs of The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

A glass of Spanish Red Wine sponsored by Forth & Tay came with the feast free to all guests.
