With two decades of ‘extra strong’ support for the local music industry, Red Horse Beer’s Pambansang Muziklaban rolled out the stage for aspiring rakistas and pillars of rock music for a night of drop-dead hardcore concert slash competition.
Muziklaban is the most awaited clash of amateur bands from all over the country. The winners of the competition must prove their worth with their unique, catchy and heart-thumping original composition onstage.
The rock competition has since unearthed rock royalties in the industry including Mayonnaise, Light of Luna and Even.
This year’s Muziklaban, held last February 23 and 24 at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Malolos City, Bulacan, was divided into two categories: Lakas and Aklas. Both categories had five finalists.
Lakas (February 23) bannered bands that catered to hard heavy rock music, while Aklas (February 24) are for the alternative cults.
This year’s grand finalist are Ashes of Anubis (South Luzon), Chapters (Central North Luzon), Sucketseven (Greater Manila Area), Cursed by Fire (Visayas) and Lilith (Mindanao) for the Lakas category; while Overture (Greater Manila Area), Triangulo (Central North Luzon), Happy Three Friends (South Luzon), Jack Sprat (Visayas) and Rockaholic (Mindanao) for the Aklas category. Also performing during the judging night are Slapshock, Greyhoundz, Wilabaliw, Chicosci and Razorback (with a surprise team up with Basti Artadi of Wolfgang) during the first day. Parokya ni Edgar, Gloc-9, Kjwan and Mayonnaise provided the head-banging performances in the second day. Beers and shirt merchandises were also present during the event.
Lilith, metalcore band from Cagayan de Oro City, was hailed the winner for the Lakas category; while Laguna punk rockers Happy Three Friends won the Aklas category.
Both grand champions took home P500,000 cash prize. They will be performing for the upcoming events of Red Horse Beer.
