A group of Davao-based architects is eyeing to forge partnership with the Davao City local government unit (LGU) to do some ‘make-over’ of the city.
Arch. Jun Yves Magdamo, United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) – Davao Chapter president, said that the group is now preparing a memorandum of agreement with the city government to get the projects going which they described will make the city “aesthetically appealing.”
UAP, an integrated and accredited professional organization of architects in the country, has more than 42,000 members.
“We cry out to be part of the government in designing of the buildings in the city so that the city would be aesthetically appealing,” Magdamo said.
He said that the proposed partnership will serve as UAP’s corporate social responsibility vehicle with the group of professionals rendering free services to the local government.
Among the architectural designs that UAP will offer, according to Magdamo, are the designing of walkways, waiting sheds, bus stops and even government buildings.
UAP recently hosted the Defining Space 12, a three-day exhibit last February 22-24 at the SM City Davao with the theme “Dream-Plan-Build Dabaw City Design and Architecture.” The exhibit showcased 40 architectural suppliers.
The UAP president said that the theme is also in line with President Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program.
“Designing Space is about informing clients and the public about the innovation of new materials and clients who are not yet knowledgeable in building houses, buildings and offices. That is why we provided them the exhibit for architects and clients,” Magdamo said.
“Davao City is also booming in terms of construction. That is why many suppliers joined because of the increasing construction of buildings here in the city,” he said.
