Special lanes will be dedicated for some passengers at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) in anticipation of the influx of passengers leading up to the observance of ‘Undas’ on Friday and Saturday.
Bus operators will assign separate lines for Person with Disability (PWD), pregnant women, passengers with children and senior citizens.
DCOTT head Aisa Usop, on Wednesday, October 30, told media during the AFP-PNP Press Corps Media Briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel that the number of passengers to board on buses will definitely swell during ‘Undas.’
“Makikita nyo sa terminal na meron silang nilagay na mga tali para ma separate yung regular passengers,” she said.
Normally, DCOTT records 650 to 700 bus trips a day which is equivalent to 35,000 to 40,000 passengers. However, during peak seasons, the number of bus passengers suddenly bloats to almost a hundred percent.
“Pag peak season we record around 1,200 to 1,500 bus trips a day equivalent to 50,000 to 70,000 passengers,” Usop said.
Usop revealed that bus passengers are increasing each year.
Despite the expected overcrowding at the terminal, DCOTT also assured that the more than 1-hectare terminal is equipped with security resources.
Usop said CCTV cameras are installed around the terminal to monitor all activities of the passenger. She also flaunted their x-ray baggage machines, walk-though machine and K-9 dogs to detect any form of threat.
Most importantly, there are personnel from the Task Force (TF) Davao and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to monitor the security of the area.
