People’s commitment to follow city’s restrictions a must

Dr. Cleo Fe Tabada, head of the  Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of Department of Health 11 (DOH-11) reports that a total of 3,430 persons who had close contacts with COVID-19 patients has been swabbed as of the third day of the four-day “aggressive community testing” (ACT) in Davao Region during a news conference on Friday. Also present during the presser were Philippine Information Agency (PIA) director general Ramon Cualoping III (right) and Region 11 director Frances Mae Macapagat. Edge Davao

An official of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) for Central Health Dvelopment-Davao (CHD-Davao) lamented the apparent disregard by some Dabawenyos of various ordinances and restrictions implemented to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

“I would like to look at restrictions. These are the list of things na i-remind ta na dili nato buhaton. It is more important how follow these restrictions. We have a challenge of enforcement and implementation kay alangan bantayan ta nila 24/7 kung unsa atong ginabuhat,” said Dr. Cleo Fe Tabada, medical officer of RESU of CHD-Davao.

Tabada said these restrictions are enough, however, must also include Dabawenyos’ commitment to follow.

“The restrictions are based on science and the recommendations of the Department Of Health and partners sectors so that we can curtail the transmissions. Are these enough? Yes, these are enough if everybody follows. Naa man gud mi nakit-an na pulis lang bantayan sa mga tao, kataw-an pa. Like kung naay pulis, isuot, paghawa sa pulis, ibaba unya mangatawa. This is a sad situation that we are seeing,” Tabada said.

According to her, the city government of Davao has been efficient in coming up a lot of restrictions which are beneficial to the public.

“We’ve started out for the changes in the quarantine protocols. Duna na gi-institute ang siyudad na curfew, liquor ban, and ordinances how to use a face mask and a face shield and distancing. The barangays are also active sa pag tan-aw kung kinsa sa community ang nagtapok because we noticed that clustering has also increased. In general, daghan ta ug kaso,” she said.

Apart from the detection activities that are being conducted, Tabada also cited people in the streets, malls, and other establishments have contributed to the increasing cases despite placing Davao City under general community quarantine (GCQ) status.

“What are the factors? Tungod kay, partly, daghan ta ug ginabuhat to find our cases but it does not mean kung wala ta’y gihimo wala ta’y transmission. Kung taas ang cases buot pasabot taas ang transmission duna gyud infection and the reason is that daghan tao sa malls, streets, and establishments, this despite placing Davao City under GCQ. Even if restrictions are instituted, medyo galisod ta pa-impelement ani tungod kay people is around. Remember that when people are close together,it is the only way that the virus can jump from one person to the next. We have more cases, yes it’s because we are doing a lot of detection activities in Davao City or even other provinces,” she said.

She said DOH 11 is trying to increase testing, increase the number of people doing the testing and the isolation facilities.
