The City Government of Mati forecasted to reach full herd immunity before the year ends based on the trend of vaccination and the availability of the vaccines, said Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan Jr, Head of the Mati City Incident Management Team.
Based on the report of the City Information Office (CIO) – Mati, Dr. Catbagan revealed that the City of Mati already vaccinated 50.8% of its target population for herd immunity which requires 107,442 residents or 70% of the total population of the city. This figure surpassed the target of the World Health Organization (WHO) for local government units to vaccinate 40% of their target population.
In the same report, Dr. Catbagan said that if their daily vaccination rate which tallies to almost 2,000 individuals will continue, the City of Mati might achieve its herd immunity before this year ends.
As of now, out of 26 barangays, Dahican leads the highest vaccination rate with 54% of its target population already inoculated followed by barangays (in order) Matiao, Barangay Central, Don Enrique Lopez, Bobon, Lawigan, Tam-isan, Taguibo, Dawan, Sainz, Danao, Libudon, Buso, Badas, Culian, Luban, Lanca, Don Salvador Lopez, Don Martin Marundan, Sanghay, Tagbinonga, Tagabakid, Mayo, Macambol, Cabuaya, and Mamali.
As the city is part of the top 50 priority areas of the National Vaccination Operations Center in the entire country, more doctors and nurses were employed by the Department of Health (DOH) for faster vaccination.
The city is also well-prepared for the simultaneous three-day national Covid-19 vaccination program by the Department of Health which targets 15 million Filipinos worldwide to be vaccinated. (PIA XI Davao del Norte/jmda/Ezri M. Coda, Jr. with reports from CIO Mati)
