When fully operational, 80 percent of the bulk water supply project will service Davao City’s District 2, according to an official of the Davao City Water District (DCWD).

Jovanna Duhaylungsod, spokesperson of DCWD, told media that the Aboitiz-led Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (AAII) is committed to providing 300 million liters to 347 million liters of water per day to DCWD from its P12-billion bulk water supply project.

“In terms of percentage, the bulk of the water supply will be distributed to District 2 considering nga naa didto ang Panacan and Cabantian Water Supply System ug Line 2 of Dumoy Water Supply System. Rough estimate is 80 percent of the 300 million liters of water per day will go there (District 2),” Duhaylungsod said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao Annex on Monday.

Duhaylungsod said the rest of the water supply will be distributed to Calinan and Tugbok Water Supply System in District 3 while there is also part of the water supply that will augment Line 1 of Dumoy Water Supply System in the city’s District 1.

“Ang dili lang makadawat sa water supply is portion of District 3 that is Lubogan in Toril and Binugao because dili na sila maabot sa bulk water,” she added.

Duhaylungsod said that those areas that cannot be served by the bulk water project will be served by the groundwater sources.

“In fact, sila karon ang mas stable ang operation because mas bastante ang tubig didto sa part sa syudad. The sources are within the immediate locations of this water supply system and faster ang development sa atoang sources didto na area,” she said.

Meanwhile, AAII has moved the target operation of the said bulk water supply project in Davao City to early 2022 and is now fast-tracking construction to make up for delays due to the pandemic-related restrictions.

It can be recalled that AAII, a joint venture of Aboitiz Equity Ventures and J.V. Angeles Construction Corp. (JVACC), was earlier targeting to begin delivery of the contracted supply of 300 million liters per day to the DCWD before the end of 2021.

“On the part of Apo Agua which is Part A of the water supply project that includes the development of the source, the construction of the water treatment plant, and pipeline distribution, there had been a shift in their timeline but they are still looking forward to operating within the year 2022,” Duhaylungsod said.

Duhaylungsod said on the part of the DCWD distribution network including the storage facilities that form Part B of the project, all of the crucial infrastructure is already in place.

“In fact, we are already using some of them to augment our current operation. In terms of part B all of the pipelines’ storage facilities are ready for operation to access the water coming from Apo Agua,” she said.
