Food manufacturer Monde Nissin Corporation’s plant expansion in Davao City is seen to provide more jobs to Dabawenyos.

Monde Nissin Corporation held the groundbreaking ceremony of their Davao plant expansion that will include a bakery and biscuits facility in Barangay Ilang, Bunawan District, Davao City on Thursday.

The expansion project, which has a total investment of P1.2 billion, is expected to create over 500 jobs at capacity to support the highly automated and advanced operations of the plant.

Monde Nissin Davao plant manager Jun Matayabas said the project will offer job opportunities such as plant workers, technical workers, and warehouse workers.

The company is also eyeing to source raw materials for production locally such as eggs and flour.

“Eggs, flour, and sugar, we want to source them. We will look at it based on the qualifications and standards of the raw materials and suppliers,” said Romeo Marañon, unit head for Monde Nissin biscuits and bakery business.

The plant is targeted to start operating in the first quarter of 2024.

Matayabas added that the expansion, particularly the bakery and business factory, reinforces Monde Nissin’s commitment to inclusive growth and the expansion of positive effects from production through the distribution network to end consumers.

“This expansion not only enhances our manufacturing capacity but also strengthens our network of partner distributors and retailers. It enables us to supply beloved Monde Nissin products to customers in the region more efficiently, amplifying our impact and reach,” said Jesse Teo, chief financial officer of Monde Nissin.

The existing manufacturing plant of Monde Nissin in Davao City has been supplying the region with noodle products for over a decade.

Marañon said the expansion of the Davao facility is in alignment with the company’s mission to improve food security, accessibility, and sustainability in Filipino communities.

The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by Secretary Maria Belen Acosta, chairperson of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA); lawyer Ruth B. Castelo, Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); John Carlo Tria, president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc, (DCCCII) and members of DCCCII; Davao City Councilors Bernie Al-Ag, Al Ryan Alejandre, Luna Maria Dominique Acosta; Barangay Captain Amado Babao and the members of the Council of Barangay Ilang.
