DTI 11 to highlight Davao Region’s creative industries in “FiestaKucha”

The regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI 11) will put the spotlight on the creatives industry of the Davao Region with the launching of the “FiestaKucha Kadayawan 2023,” which is Davao Region’s first Creative Innovation Summit on September 26, 2023.

This is part of the celebration of the 2023 Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) this September, aiming to promote local creatives.

“FiestaKucha is inspired by the combination of the word “pista” and “kucha,” a Japanese storytelling or “chitchat”. This FiesaKucha is more on conversation or storytelling but more festively and formally,” said Romeo L. Castañaga, assistant regional director of DTI 11 during Wednesdays media forum at Habi at Kape at Abreeza Mall.

Castañaga said DTI has invited inspiring speakers that include 4th District of Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia, author of the Philippine Creatives Industry Law; and some dignitaries from Manila and artists from Davao Region.

“We have also a diverse subsector participating. We also have art exhibitions and performances, live weaving by the traditional weavers in the region, fashion shows, and cultural presentations,” he said.

Last year, Congress passed the Philippine Creative Industries Development (PCID) Act or Republic Act 11904, which mandates the creation of a long-term plan for the promotion and development of creative industries.

This covers nine domains namely audio-visual media, digital interactive media, creative services, design, publishing and printed media, performing arts, visual arts, culinary arts, and cultural sites. These domains have more than 70 subsectors.

“This is about the creative industries and when we say creative industries it’s a wide scope of industries including digitalization. and those contributing much to the economy such as jobs and services,” said Castañaga.
