AboitizPower subsidiary Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) turned over the Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) laboratory to J.V. Ferriols National High School in Toril and Optaciano Hilay National High School in Tugbok, Davao City on Monday.
Dubbed “Project Electrical Lab or e.Lab”, the program provides an EIM skill training and assessment facility for high school learners where the course finishers can receive a National Certification II from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Project e.-lab is also Davao Light’s support to the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood track of the Department of Education (DepEd).
“Together with the Aboitiz Foundation, Davao Light designed “Project e.Lab” which equips schools with a facility where students get a valuable hands-on learning experience in electrical works and engineering. In short, it is putting theory into practice. We fervently hope that through this e.Lab, our senior high school students will practice as much as they can, and maximize the use of the facility and its tools. We envision that one day they become electrical experts who prioritize safety and are innovative, competitive, and customer-oriented,” said Engineer Reynold Felix, administration head of Davao Light in his message.
In line with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the United Nations, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, the project aims to provide graduates with national certifications so they would have the means to provide a better life for their families.
Fermin P. Edillon, Reputation Enhancement Department head of Davao Light said the program is Davao Light’s support to DepEd programs.
“This is a workshop laboratory for students who would want to enroll and want to learn basic knowledge on electrical works. If there are enrollees na ma qualify sa NC2 pangitaan namo ug paagi where we can support your school sa ubang paagi nga ma-maximize and usage,” he said.
Felix said Davao Light focuses on three corporate social responsibility program areas: environment, enterprise development, and education.
“We made it a priority to support public education when the K-12 program of the Department of Education was started. We took it a step further by supporting schools that offer the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track, and by creating projects that hone the youth to better prepare them for a future that is full of great opportunities,” he said.
Felix is hopeful that through this e.Lab, senior high school students will practice and maximize the use of the facility and its tools.
“We envision that one day they become electrical experts who prioritize safety and are innovative, competitive, and customer-oriented. We only ask one thing from you our beneficiaries, and that is to take care of the facility to ensure that learning never ends. We would love to continue hearing the success stories of our learners as it makes us even more proud of the work that we do,” he said.
Since 2014, there have already been 43 schools that received the mentioned EIM laboratories from the Davao Light and Aboitiz Foundation.
