Renante E. Salazar, chief executive officer of MonteFrio Garden Resort in Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur, assured that they did not commit any violation in the development of the resort.
Following the controversial resort in Chocolate Hills, Senator Raffy Tulfo bared in the Senate that there are also several resorts established in the protected area of Mount Apo including Twin Mountain View Resort, Montefrio Resort, and Villa Recurso.
The Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort in Sagbayan town in Bohol recently became controversial when a video of it became viral online. The resort’s establishment within the province’s top tourist attraction, the Chocolate Hills, resulted in an uproar among netizens who questioned how the resort could do business in a protected area.
Salazar told Edge Davao that on their part, they have complied all the requirements such as the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), clearance from the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), and clearance from the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB).
“We complied all the requirements. Naa mi ECC and clearance from PAMB that is why we were allowed by the DENR to develop the resort. Gina-call lang ni Sen. Tulfo ang attention sa mga resorts kung nagkuha ba na sila ug ECC ug PAMB pero kita pud rest assured naa nata ana tanan,” Salazar said.
MonteFrio Garden Resort, which was established during the Covid-19 pandemic and served as a family rest house, has become a tourism establishment situated more than 4,000 feet above sea level in Sitio Mainit, Brgy. Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur.
MonteFrio, which means cold mountain, helps boost the tourism industry in Davao del Sur.
