There is no doubt Kadayawan sa Davao is synonymous with Davao City’s heritage, cultural showcase, merrymaking and durian.
If you want to go on a durian spree this 39th Kadayawan sa Davao Festival, the Durian Festival is the place to be.
The Department of Agriculture 11 (DA 11) and SM Lanang Premier in collaboration with the Durian Industry Association of Davao City are showcasing highly sought-after varieties of the King of Fruits for the 10th Durian Festival, which opened at the north wing (fountain area) of SM Lanang on Friday.
Satisfy your senses and stomach with your favorite durian variety at the Durian Festival which includes D101, Puyat, native, Arancillo, Montong Obosa, D24, Duyaya, Cob, and Durio Graveolens (Brunei).
There are tables and chairs provided at the area so family and group of friends can enjoy munching durians and other local fruits such as mangosteen, marang, and rambutan.
Lawyer Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs of DA, described durian as the symbol of Davao City’s character and strength.
“We celebrate not only our bountiful harvests but also our shared spirit, heritage, and resilience, as one community,” Guevarra said.
For Dabawenyos, durian is more than a fruit; it represents the resilience and spirit of Davao City.
“It mirrors the journey of your humble, yet thriving community: bold, unyielding, and profoundly rewarding to those who truly understand its essence and value. Today, we are celebrating not only our bountiful harvest but also our shared spirit, heritage, and resilience as one community,” Guevarra added.
DA-11 Regional Executive Director Macario Gonzaga said the Durian Festival is more than just promoting in-season fruits in time for the Kadayawan festival but also realizing that it is through collective efforts and the power of collaboration that the city will prosper.
“The well-anticipated Kadayawan sa Davao Festival will never be complete without showcasing the Davao’s pride and iconic fruit, durian,” Gonzaga said.
The Durian Festival will run until September 15.
