Marbil orders Torre to clean up the CIDG

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil ordered newly-appointed Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) acting Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III to lead a full-scale clean up of the CIDG following the latter’s recent appointment to the post.

Marbil was in Davao City with Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr. on Friday to witness the formal assumption of Brigadier General Leon Victor Z. Rosete as the new Regional Director of Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11), replacing Torre, held at the Camp Quintin Merecido in Buhangin, Davao City.

Torre, who is expected to be promoted to Major General, was given the responsibility by Marbil of leading a comprehensive internal cleansing of the CIDG to re-establish its credibility and win back the public’s trust.

“The CIDG must set the highest standard of professionalism and ethical conduct. I have complete trust in Gen. Nicolas Torre III’s ability to address the challenges within the CIDG. His proven track record shows his capability to confront these issues head-on, and I am confident he will take on this mission with unyielding commitment,” Marbil said in a statement.

Marbil underscored how crucial the CIDG is to upholding the legitimacy of police investigations and guaranteeing that justice is done and gave Torre a duty to get rid of any employees or internal problems that jeopardize the group’s integrity.

“There’s no room for complacency or misconduct within the CIDG. We must identify and address any wrongdoing, ensuring that the CIDG maintains its critical role in our law enforcement operations,” he said.

Marbil said that the directive falls under his overall efforts for institutional reform in the PNP, aiming to enhance investigative operations, speed up case resolutions, and promote more accountability and transparency within the organization.

“I expect swift and decisive action. Every member of the CIDG must be held accountable for their actions. The public deserves transparency, and we are committed to showing that the PNP stands firmly for the rule of law,” he said.

Marbil said with Torre at the helm, the CIDG is anticipated to carry out extensive changes, such as improved staff vetting, intensified training, and strict monitoring of all activities to guarantee compliance with the utmost ethical norms.

“The CIDG is at the core of our investigative efforts, and I’m confident that under Gen. Torre’s leadership, we will see a revitalized, more effective unit that will serve the public with honor and integrity,” Marbil added.

To recall, Torre led the 16-day siege of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) in line with the implementation of the warrants of arrest against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his co-accused.
