Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte criticized some politicians for posing as pro-Duterte allies to gain votes during the previous elections. These politicians, the Mayor said, are now shifting loyalties based on convenience despite lacking genuine purpose and honor.
The mayor stated this amid the Marcos administration’s continued investigation of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
“Hindi ako magtataka kasi marami diyan nagpa pro-Duterte pro Duterte kagaya ng kasama namin si PBA at mga ganon. Sumakay pa sa platform namin para manalo, tapos andiyan na ngayon (Congress). I think nilaro lang talaga nila yung politika to maintain the position,” the mayor said in his podcast “Basta Dabawenyo.”
The mayor said Congress is just wasting the people’s money and time because of what they are doing right now. They rather focus on more important things.
“Sayang ang boto, ang pera ng bayan dahil andami pa namang puwedeng gawin ng gobyerno para maayos at pagandahin ang bansa natin. Kung ano na lang ang ginagawa ng mga tao diyan sa Congress. Kasi buhay ng tao ang pinag-uusapan everyday na andito kaming mga politiko sa aming posisyon dito sa gobyerno, tapos yan lang? Bakit natin sinasayang ang oras ng mga tao sa napakawalang kwentang bagay na yan para ipagtanggol lang ang mga drug lords,” Duterte said.
Duterte also voiced his concerns about recent House hearings, questioning if the politicians involved truly understand the needs of the Filipino people.
He also emphasized that Congress should focus on real issues that matter to the public, rather than simply playing politics.
“Naintindihan ba talaga ng Congress, and these politicians that are in Congress right now what they’re talking about? Do they really know what the Filipino people need or want? I can’t even begin to imagine kung bakit sila nagkakaroon ng seat in politics,” he said.
Duterte said he does not want to be part of a government whose work is not in the interest of the Filipinos.
“I think for a human being to exist, work is essential kasama natin sa existence na araw araw may gagawin tayo, we should be contributors to society. Palagay ko kung kasama ako sa sistema ng administrasyon ngayon na tingin ko mali and they are not working for the interest for the people then why should I take part in this? Kung sila sa Congress nagnanakaw ng pera or manipulating the budget for politics and the issue on war on drugs ba’t ako sasali sa inyo? Gusto ko lang ng trabaho pero gusto ko yung trabaho na nakakadagdag ako sa bansa o ng society at city. Pero kung yan ang gagawin ninyo ayokong sumama sa inyo,” he said.
