Heavy downpour brought about by Typhoon Querubin, which was later downgraded to a low-pressure area (LPA) on Wednesday, and the shear line resulted in a landslide in the Tagum City-Mawab road section in Davao del Norte on Wednesday night.
According to Karlo Alexei Puerto, spokesperson of the Office of the Civil Defense 11 (OCD-11), as of 12 a.m. on Thursday, the road was already passable to all types of vehicles.
“Ongoing pa ang consolidation and validation on the data of the affected population nato sa effects of the trough of LPA,” Puerto said.
As early as December 16, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro advised the public through its Facebook page to take precautionary measures as LPA was affecting the region.
“We urge all residents to stay alert and prepared for possible heavy rains, strong winds, and localized flooding,” it said.
The province announced a yellow warning through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Davao de Oro.
On Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a general flooding advisory for the Davao Region with a forecast of 12-hour rainfall from light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
PAGASA announced the watercourses that were likely to be affected: rivers and tributaries in Davao City such as Lasang, Bunawan, Matina, Talomo, and Lipadas; Matiao and Hijo rivers in Davao de Oro; Tagum-Libuganon, Tuganay, and Saug in Davao del Norte; rivers and tributaries in Cateel, Dapnan, Baganga, Mahan-ub, Manorigao, Caraga, Casaunan, Quinonoan, Bagwan, Mayo, Binatayan, Sumlog, Tangmoan, Dacongbonwa, Kabasagan, Manay, Maya, and Sumilao in Davao Oriental; and Tagulaya, Sibulan, Digos and Padada Mainit in Davao del Sur.
