A delegation from the Australian Embassy visited Davao City and paid a courtesy call to the City Council of Davao on Thursday.
The delegation was led by Economic Counsellor Luke Villiers who told Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. that among the reasons for their visit is to further promote stronger bilateral ties between Australia and the Philippines.
Quitain said the delegation’s visit to Davao City also aims to develop understanding of the economic developments in Davao City.
“We had a small talk like what is there to see and opportunities in Davao City. Basically they’re from the Australian government looking for investment opportunities here in Davao City. First time nila to come here so hopefully they’ll come back,” Quitain told Edge Davao.
It can be recalled that on March 2, 2021, the Philippines exported its first frozen durian products from Davao City to Australia wherein two varieties of Davao durian were included in the initial shipment, the Puyat and the Duyaya varieties. Last year, fresh mangoes from Davao del Sur was also brought in for the first time to Australia which has very stringent laws on importation of agricultural products.
“May this courtesy visit be one of the many fruitful collaborations between Davao City and Australia,” Quitain said.
