The Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) reiterated its reminder to policemen in Davao Region that “moonlighting” or giving private security to any candidates in the upcoming 2025 midterm local and national elections is strictly prohibited.
Major Catherine dela Rey, spokesperson of PRO 11, said that the police can be relieved from service if they are proven to be “moonlighting” or providing private security to the candidates.
“Bawal mi mag moonlighting ug puwede mi ma relieve sa among serbisyo. Kunyari wala namo na monitor ug naa mo’y information niana, puwede dayon mo musulti sa amoa,” dela Rey said over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).
Earlier this month, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil warned members of the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) against “moonlighting” or providing private security to election candidates as the 2025 midterm polls approach and emphasized that police officers are “strictly not allowed” to provide private security to candidates running in the 2025 elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) prohibits the use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidate, unless authorized in writing by the Comelec during election period.
Under the Commission on Elections Resolution No. 11067, no person shall employ, avail, or engage the services of security personnel or bodyguards during the election period which started January 12.
