“The errors of great men are venerable because they are more fruitful than the truths of little men.” – FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE
*******
People are not listening.
The world is shouting for change but this is all falling on deaf ears.
There is so much mediocrity – it is all around us in governments and in the way governance is being exercised by those in power and in this society inhabited by so-called human beings.
Regrettably, not only is mediocrity swarming all over us. Humanity seems to think it will go away like a pestering fly.
So, tolerance is exercised so as not to disturb the state of things because mediocrity – as idiots would rationalize – is allowable..
And justified.
Justified?
Look, the invasion by Russia of Ukraine was thought to be a quick military operation.
Actually, it should have been much earlier than the Feb. 24 playdate. Putin postponed it until he acquiesced to Xi
Jin Ping’s request so as not to unduly disrupt and disturb the Winter Games that were then on-going.
Today even as that “special military operation” turned into a full scale war, the Kremlin ruler continues to brush aside suggestions from the UN, the EU and other countries mediating for a peaceful solution.
That was seven months ago. The Russian-Ukraine conflict continues to drag on.
And Putin has no remorse in justifying the invasion in a way that mentally-disturbed leaders do it.
Mediocrity. It affects every non-rational thinking individual.
So, the entire planet is suffering.
Everybody is complaining of inflation. High, soaring prices of commodities and other food items are making housewives intolerably crazy about how to make both ends meet.
Europe and other Western nations that need oil and gas to warm their homes during the winter and the cold months are bellyaching.
The threats of a nuclear war are frantically staring us in the face. It is somewhat a button away.
The largest nuclear power plant in Europe is located in Zaporizhia in Ukraine where there is now heavy fighting between Russian military and defending Ukrainian soldiers.
If this is not strange to you, rational critical thinking is the correct attitude that should appropriately replace mediocrity.
The nuclear talks between Iran and the US and EU held in Vienna last year have failed.
Iran is stubbornly demanding that the US should return to the original 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) accord.
Iran wants the economic sanctions lifted after ex-Pres. Donald Trump exited from the JCPOA in 2018.
The fearful news reports say Iran continues its stockpiling of uranium to produce its first nuclear bomb, this despite legitimate protests from the UN and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) that they be allowed to inspect the 20 plus or so nuclear power plants operating in hidden underground areas in Iran.
Mediocrity is putting the safety of all humanity in jeopardy.
Leaders with dictatorial powers like Putin unknowingly justify their mediocre decision-making because they possess dogmatic minds that can handle all situations, regardless of their nature.
They don’t seem to mind if millions will perish if that “button’ is pressed irrationally.
We are probably luckier here in the Philippines because God blessed us with bountiful natural resources.
We are luckier because geographically speaking, we are thousands of miles away from the regions where conflicts are happening with regularity.
But figure it out.
Shouldn’t we have learned many lessons – in life and in governance – from the chaos transpiring around us?
The world is sick and it is not getting any better.
It is actually getting worse.
Mediocrity is in the mind. Sadly, it is a state of being – reflected by those who settle for the ordinary.
