Nat’l Age Group Chess-Minda Leg in set in Mati

The Mindanao leg of the 2018 National Age Group Chess Championships get going on March 23-25at the Baywalk Hotel in Mati City.

The tournament serves as the qualfying leg for the National Finals in Manila on April with the top three to 5 in each category advancing. The eventual winners will advance to the ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships to be hosted by Davao City on June 18-28.

Mayor Carlo Rabat of Mati City said he welcomed the hosting privilege as it will showcase the Davao Oriental capital to the sporting community in the country. He said he will ensure that the visiting players and their families will have a pleasant stay in the city.

“We would like to assure the organizer as well as the participants, guests and visitors coming in, that the doors are open for you to savor the warmth of the City and its resilient people with diverse culture and heritage,” Mayor Rabat said.

“I wish you all a vibrant and successful conduct of your activity,” he added.

Prizes at stake for the 20 years and below, 18 years and below and 16 years and below champion (male) is 3,000 and (female) 2,000 cash plus trophies. The Runner-up will come home with (male) 1,500 (female) 1,000 and a medal. The third placer will get (male) 1,000 (female) 750 cash and a medal. Fourth placer will get (male) 750 (female) 500 pesos cash plus a medal. Fifth place winners will get (male) 500 (female) 400 pesos and a medal. While the sixth to tenth placers will all go home with 300 pesos cash and medals.

14 years old and below and 12 years and below champs will bag 2,000 (male) 1,500 (female) cash plus trophies. The Runner-up will get 1,000 (male) 750 (female) and a medal. Third place winners will receive 750 (male) 600 (female) and medals. Fourth placer (male) wins 600 (female) 500 also with a medal. Fifth place (male) will get 500 (female) 400 cash and a medal. Sixth to tenth place winners would not come home empty handed as they will also receive 300 pesos worth of cash and medals.

The young ones 10 years andbelow and 8 years and below champions male will receive 1,500 while the female gets 1,000 pesos cash. Both gets to bring home their trophies. Runner-up (male) gets 1,000 (female) gets 750 cash prize plus medals. The third place male winner will receive 750 pesos cash while the female winner gets 600 both with medals. Fourth placer (male) bags 600 (female) 500 and medals. Fifth placer (male) will receive 500 (female) 400 and medals. Lastly, all the sixth to tenth gets 300 pesos and medals.

The event is backed up by National Chess Federation of the Philippines President Congressman Prospero A. Pichay and NCFP Secretary General Congressman Abraham Tolentino.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, meantime, is spearheading the hosting of the AAG 2018.
