Sec. Bong Go drops 10 triples, powers Team Duterte to first win

Playing in an organized tournament for a long while, Sec. Christopher “Bong” Go immediately made an impact. An earth-shaking one at that.

A reliable pistolero from distances and angles fewer hoopeters take with accuracy, Go sank 10 from 20 feet outwards as he led Team Duterte to a tightrope 83-81 squeaker against BJMP for its first win in the Go For Hoops Basketball Tournament on Friday at the Genesis 88 Gym.

The Special Assistant to President Rody Duterte who takes to basketball when not going about his usual multi-tasking routine, finished the game with 47 points–not bad for one who plays mostly on friendly series and is into his first formal tournament in a long while.

“I’m glad to play in a tournament like this. It’s a refresing break. The competition is a very good de-stresser,” said Go.

Wearing his favorite no. 18 on his jersey, Go displayed superb shooting from behind the arc capped with a right corner booming trey that gave Team Duterte a 81-78 lead under three minutes in the game.

Team Duterte banked on that clutch three pointer to pull away with the hard-earned win.

BJMP threatened Team Duterte for the last time with its transition attack in the winding seconds of the match.

But the Jailmens final play went bootless as they failed to make a heave as the time expires.

Four players led by Sumagang who scored 19 finished with double digits for BJMP which also got quality minutes from Bumatay (15), Frondoza (13) and Donguilles (12).

John Sevilla chipped in 14 baskets for Team Duterte.

Both teams managed to trade rallies all game long that spiced up the epic contest.

BJMP mounted a huge run midway of the third canto to take the upperhand.

But the advantage dissolved quickly as Go waxed hot to maneuver Team Duterte back in the game.
