Jobert Lumanta led the winners of the recent Araw ng Davao Para Games held March 28 at the Rizal Park after emerging as the most bemedalled athlete with a pair of gold medals.
Lumanta topped the standing/crutches table tennis after he disposed of Eugene Matao who took the silver while Edgar Villasica wound up with the bronze. He then came back later to win his second gold in the chess for the orthopedically handicapped besting Edgardo Villasica and Andres Liporada who took the silver and bronze, respectively.
Lumanta’s double-gold medal effort were among the highlights of the day-long event organized by PHILSPADA Davao and supported by the city government of Davao. PHILSPADA Davao President James Infiesto bared the winners on Tuesday.
Racleo Martinez Jr. topped the wheelchair table tennis beating Hoel Superales in a thrilling finale. Martinez took the gold medal in the event while Superales took the silver and Domingo Lequin Jr. settled for the bronze.
In the other events, Sherwin Ferol took the gold in the table tennis for the deaf when he beat Glenn Yray in the finals. Yray took home the silver while Freddie Villegas bagged the bronze.
Elmar Olivar won the gold in the chess for the visually impaired 6 category. Julius Calonia settled for the silver while Billy Pojillo took the bronze. In volleyball for the hearing impaired, Primidel Truya took the gold over second placer Apolinario Clavecillas and third placer Angeline Ongcas. The goalball for the visually impaired was won by Cres Alfante with Evenizer Celebrado finishing second and Jonathan Espanol third.
The 3 on 3 wheelchair basketball gold was snatched by Tagum Tigers led by Jonathan Juela with ADAP Tigers captained by Jomarie Embalzado finishing second and DavNor Dragons skippered by Eugene Matao placing third. In the wheelathon for men, Antonio Espanol took the gold over Mohammad Khalid Alvarez and Jannil Canete while the women’s gold was won by Cherry Mae Osabel with Rohaina Sumaylo finishing second and Jane Sumaylo third.
In the Fun Run for the Visually Impaired (Completely Blind), Jonathan Espanol took the gold over rivals Randy Suaybaguio and Richard Cubillas while the Partially Blind division was won by Evenizer Celebrado who bested Jeffrey Fernando and Allan Espanol. The women’s side was won by Mary Ann Diana with Juban Sepe finishing second and Evangeline Gamao third.
