League-leading PNP Responders kept their unbeaten record with a huge win over the Malacañang-PSC Kamao, 97-90, in the 2018 UNTV Cup Face Off at the Pasig City Center on Thursday.
The Responders notched their seventh win in as many games to keep their stranglehold of the tournament leaderboard while the Kamao dropped to their fifth loss in seven outings. PNP’s defense was able to contain the explosive Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
“No excuses, maganda ang nilaro nila. Both ends of the court, they worked so hard. They deserve the win,” said Go.
PSupt Joel De Mesa and PSupt Anthony Padua clinched the Best Player of the Game honors.
The spitfirish Go was coming off a 47-point outburst in their last outing toppling his previous career-high of 44 pts in the Kamao’s second win in the tournament for government executives. In that game, number eighteen connected 7 three-pointers (21 pts of 47 pts) with 5 rebounds and 1 steal in their battle against the defending off-season champion AFP Cavaliers, 87-69, also at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Go earned Best Player of the Game honors in that win, his second in the tournament. The first time was against the GSIS Thunder Furies.
In the other match, Judiciary Magis defeated Senate Sentinels, 69-61, to improve to 5 wins against 2 losses. The Sentinels dropped to 4-3.
Winning the BPG honors were Manuel Gerard Tomacruz and Joey Yabut.
