The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) plans to cleanse the National Sports Association (NSA)s and will improve its services for the coaches and athletes by January 2020.
“Naay nag report sa akoang office na naay sexual abuse, naay pangayuan ug kwarta ilahang allowance ug award, ug naay (threatened) na tanggalon, all of these are in place with the PSC, and I will hold the NSAs responsible for this,” PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez himself told Davao media on Wednesday at the Yellow Fin Tuna Ecoland Branch.
The PSC’s move in cleansing the NSAs was urged by reports that there are abuse in a form of sexual harassment, extortion and threat from the coaches in various sports governing bodies.
Amid this unfortunate events, Ramirez vowed to stand by the athletes. “The existence of my office is to stand by the athletes.”
Ramirez stressed that by January 2020, the PSC will be firm in scrutinizing misconducts and disputes in the NSAs.
“If dili maayo ang conduct sa NSA dili makadawat ug budget, if no liquidation no reimbursement, and if there’s NSA disputes, no funding,” Ramirez emphasized.
In a different note, Ramirez vowed to hire Filipino full time coaches who will be regularly compensated with USD1,500 to USD2,000 a month also by January 2020.
The chairman also promised to increase the meal allowance of the athletes from P5,000 to P25,000 a month.
He said they also rehabilitated sports facilities in Philsports Complex in Pasig, and Rizal Memorial Stadium.
“By January murag brand new nana sila. We installed three floors of Medical Scientific Services in Ultra and in Rizal, and rehabilitated the track oval, and the Olympic standard swimming pool,” Ramirez shared.
The Philipine Sports Institute (PSI), which was established by the commission to cover the grassroots development program, is continuously working in different provinces.
“Pag mahuman ang Duterte administration klaro ang grassroots sports,” he added.
