ComVal execs attend Cebu investment tour

The provincial government of Compostela Valley has embarked on an investment exposure at major economic zones in Cebu City.

The investment exposure, headed by Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, started on May 16 and will end May 20.

Fe Maestre, head of the provincial information office, on Friday said in a statement the study tour was aimed to help the economic growth and development of Compostela Valley.

Gov. Uy was joined during the exposure trip by Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Joanna Aileen Gentugaya and Vivencia Secuya; Department of Trade and Industry provincial director Lucky Siegfred Balleque; Department of Interior and Local Government provincial director Noel Duarte, and Compostela Valley Tourism Officer Christine Dompor.

Maestre added that mayors from the towns of Nabunturan, Maco, Compostela, Mawab, New Bataan and Mabini, along with their business permits and licensing officers (BPLOs) and local economic and investments officers (LEIPOs), also joined the study tour.

“The pursuit for the establishment of economic zones in Compostela Valley is among the key strategies of the Compostela Valley Investment Board to promote and generate more investments in the province,” Balleque said in the same statement.

Compostela Valley, he pointed out, is the only province in Davao region that has still no economic zone.

“If economic zones will be established, it would give an advantageous position for a province competing for business and investments,” he added.

For her part, tourism officer Dompor cited the previous business gatherings conducted in Compostela Valley as manifestations of the province’s capability to establish and develop an economic zone.

Among the business gatherings she enumerated were the Banana Congress held in 2015 and the 1st Compostela Valley Investment Conference in 2016, which featured the “ABCs” of Compostela Valley – the aquaculture, banana, cacao, coconut, and coffee.

“We also conducted the 1st Business Leaders’ Forum last March 6 where we gathered 250 top business leaders and motivated them to organize themselves as a body to represent the most important sector in the community,” Dompor said.

The provincial government added that they opted to conduct the study in Cebu given that the place is among the major economic zones in the country and home to world-class export quality products.

Cebu also has its Information Technology parks, the Mactan Export Processing Zone 1 and II, West Cebu Industrial Parks and 355 more ecozones, the statement said. (Alexander Lopez/PNA)
