Davao Sur opens weeklong celebration of Golden Jubilee

Cagas wishes participants good memories of celebration

Governor Douglas Cagas has led this Monday’s opening of the weeklong celebration of Davao del Sur’s 50th Founding Anniversary which is celebrated every first of July.

The celebration started with a Holy Mass and flag raising ceremonies attended by the provincial and municipal local officials, capitol employees and guests, which were held at the Davao del Sur Coliseum.

The Golden Jubilee banners the theme, “Bulawanong Gugma ug Panaghiusa Alang sa Malambuong Probinsya (Golden Love and Unity for a Progressive Province).”

“As we work harder with many elected and appointed local officials and our friends from the private sector including the media, it is our fond hope and devout wish that the people of Davao del Sur and all our guests will enjoy and have good memories of the weeklong celebration of the golden anniversary of the founding of our beloved province,” Cagas stated.

The governor also headed the ribbon cutting to open the Agri-Techno-Industrial Trade Fair which features various products of Digos City, eight municipalities and big private companies in Davao del Sur.

The participating city and municipal local government units have dressed their respective booths according to the criteria set for the competition of Best Dressed Booth which was handled by the Department of Trade and Industry Davao del Sur Field Office.

Aside from the LGUs, private firms and DTI-Davao del Sur, the Philippine Information Agency Region-11 through its Information Center for Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental also joined the Trade Fair.

PIA-11 brought its Information Kiosk containing IEC materials and video clips showing about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and programs of various national government agencies.

The opening day also featured tribal rituals of various tribes in their Indigenous People’s Day, opening of a Photo Exhibit/Arts Competition, Basketball on Wheels involving Persons with Disabilities, Rescuelympics and Talent showdown for Youth entitle “Tawag ng Tanghalan Sounds Familiar.”

A Job Fair to be hosted by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will take place tomorrow (June 27). PIA-11 will also put up an Information Kiosk to this one-day activity.

Provincial information officer Nilda Aninon said the provincial LGU has allocated a budget amounting to more than P11.4 million for the various expenses in the golden celebration. (PIA-11/Carina L. Cayon
