Job-seekers get employment on ID day jobs fair in Tagum

The Independence Day job and business fair in Tagum City paved way for a total of 169 job-seekers to get hired on the spot.

Joint report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Tagum City’s Public Employment Services Office (PESO) also showed that another 478 job-seekers reached “near-hired” status during the one-day Independence Day “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan” Job and Business Fair held at the Atrium of n new Tagum City Hall.

Those hired-on-the spot and the near-hired applicants comprised 66.5 percent of the 973 total number of registered applicants that trooped to the Independence Day job fair organized by the City Government of Tagum and DOLE.

Other support agencies were the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao del Norte and the provincial offices of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Social Security Sytem (SSS) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Other support agencies are the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Philhealth, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), among other agencies.

The provincial government of Davao del Norte, the Rotary Club of Tagum and some Tagum-based media outlets also supported the job and business fair that was the only one held in Davao Region in relation to the 119th year commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day.

Aside from the national line and local agencies of governments, a number of private companies pinned their support to the job fair which turned out a surplus of available jobs that reached a total of 11,628. Of the number, 2,292 were offered by 31 local companies while 9,336 were solicited from overseas companies.

Meanwhile, the event also served as venue of various entrepreneurial services such as orientation on franchising, discussion on Grow Micro Program, skills training orientation, livelihood demonstration, symposium on business services.

A blood-letting activity was also conducted. Among the blood donors was Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon who viewed the job and business fair as significant contribution of the city government to the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day.

Tagum City PESO Department Head Rogeneth Lanos-Pagdilao revealed that the city government has adopted DOLE’s Trabaho, Negosyo and Kabuhayan Job and Business Fair as a regular event that Tagum City will host as part of celebrating Independence Day in June and city fiesta in November.
