The municipality of Maragusan commemorated yesterday the 119th Philippine Independence Day with activities for the youth.
The celebration kicked off at 5:30AM with a three-kilometer Kalayaan fun run around the poblacion.
Among the more than 600 runners who participated in the event, Fritz Clarence Lantaco sprinted the championship in the boys division, followed by Jaypril dela Cruz and Richard Richard Apawan, respectively.
In the girls division, Angelie Panilagao dashed to the finish line to clinch the first place; BVergielyn Dayanan and Dianne Claros came in second and third respectively.
Noli Tanggoyoc said that the proceeds of the run will fund their monthly youth activities in the municipality.
In the afternoon, more than 100 high school and college students participated in the symposium, which featured talks about Freedom of Information, Gag Laws and Fake News and Trolls in Social Media.
The event was capped in the evening with the Boy Band and Contemporary Dance Duo competition at the municipal gym. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
