The City Government of Tagum’s tradition of distributing food packs to Muslim communities had served almost 3,000 households in Tagum this year, as the month-long celebration of Ramadan comes to an end.
Now on its fifth year of providing food assistance to various Muslim Communities in the city, Mayor Allan Rellon once again personally spearheaded the distribution this year that scheduled its operation on June 14, 15, and 17, 2017, in barangays Magugpo East, Pandapan, Nueva Fuerza, Pagsabangan, Mankilam, Magugpo West, Magugpo Poblacion, Magugpo South, Vi sayan Village, San Miguel, Canocotan, Bincungan, Apokon Madaum, San Isidro, Busaon, and Liboganon.
The local government handed out food packs consisting of flour, coffee, and sugar, as well as sacks of rice, which benefited a total of 2,920 Muslim households as part of the local government’s solidarity in celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
This year also saw the first time that Muslim communities in Tagum have been given dates by a private organization that tied up with the local government. The sweet dates are usually eaten after fasting.
This year’s distribution is still in line with the Rellon Administration’s ten-point agenda EAGLE WINGS Program, specifically under the Social Services component and Cultural Development through the protection, preservation, recognition and promotion of the city’s cultural communities which includes the Muslim Community.
The three-day distribution was facilitated by the City’s Office on Tribal and Muslim Affairs.
Meanwhile, Mayor Rellon is set in motion in accommodating the over 100 evacuees or so called “displaced residents” from Marawi City due to the crisis taking place in Mindanao’s Islamic City.
