Kadayawan sa Dabaw goes global

Annual festival starts this August celebration as planned

Committee on tourism and beautification chairperson Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre revealed of a plan to transform the celebration of the 32nd Kadayawan 2017 on August into a “Global Kadayawan.”

Speaking during the Pulong-Pulong ni Pulong on Tuesday, Councilor Alejandre said that as planned, Kadayawan organizers will invite ASEAN communities from Indonesia and Malaysia to showcase their culture together with the 11 tribes of Davao.

“For me, ang atoang Kadayawan is really for the lumads. Ginawelcome nato sila to showcase their culture. Naa tay mga kauban diri nga taga laing nasud nga makakita sa ilang kultura. Daghan pud ang mga Indonesian and Malaysian sa Davao. Basically, it’s a matter sa pagplastar lang na siya sa atong programa sa ilaha. Gani, kita pud naa sad tay mga programs na performed sa laing nasud. I guess we can learn from each other, in terms of tradition, culture, in terms of arts.”

Alejandre, however, hastened to add the newly-formed executive committee has yet to discuss the details of the expanded celebration.

On May 3, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio signed an executive order creating the executive committees and its members for the celebration of the 32nd Kadayawan sa Davao Festival.

According to the EO, the executive committee will be chaired by Mayor Duterte-Carpio and co-chaired by Davao City Chamber of Commerce President, Ronald Go. Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte will sit as the vice-chairperson.

Other members of the execom will be Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, city mayor’s office chief of staff Raul Nadela, Assistant City Administrator for Administration Tristan Dwight Domingo, City Tourism Officer Regina Rosa Tecson, City Accountant’s Office Vingelin Bajan, City Budget Officer, Ermilinda Gallego, and Private sector representative Gene Bangayan.

The execom will be in charge of planning and ensuring the smooth coordination of programs, events and activities in connection with the Festival.

The operating expenses, including the incidental expenses relative to the services rendered by the members of the committees and other personnel in addition to their duties and responsibilities and for the work beyond office hours, shall be chargeable against the funds of the city government of Davao, budgetary allocation of the City Tourism Operations Office, and private sector sponsorships, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
