Navy vessel to bring relief aid to Marawi

The Naval Forces of Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) is accepting relief goods to be delivered to the displaced families  of Marawi City.

NFEM Public Affairs Officer Lt. James B. Reyes told Edge Davao that the goods will be delivered to Iligan City by sea through Philippine Navy transport vessel LD601 or Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Tarlac and from there  brought to Marawi by land.

Reyes said that the NFEM will  continue accepting donations until the transport vessel reaches its maximum tonnage of 7,000 tons.

He said that donations are welcome but interested donors are required to contact them first, through 09778354288 before bringing any goods to the port because they will check them beforehand.

According to Reyes, as of Friday, five trucks with rice, canned goods and instant food that came from the City Government of Davao have arrived.

BRP Tarlac, Philippine Navy’s first strategic sea vessel, arrived at Sasa Port, Davao City on Friday, June 2 after it transported logistical requirements to support government troops battling against the Maute terrorist groups in Marawi.

At least 2,00 families have been displaced from Marawi City and are now seeking refuge in neighboring cities Iligan City due to the occupation of the Maute terrorist group on May 23, which prompted President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare Martial Law in the whole island of Mindanao.
