Now that the students are back for a new school year, the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office has vowed to strictly implement the anti-jaywalking ordinance more than ever.
On Thursday, CTTMO Anti-Jaywalking Task Force Unit Enforcer Donald R. Estoquia said that students who are 16-years-old and above may be apprehended if they violate the anti-jaywalking ordinance.
According to Estoquia, as of now, a violator will only be issued an invitation slip, inviting him/her to the CTTMO for an orientation and seminar on the ordinance, pending the approval of the citation tickets which would cost P 100.00 for the violating pedestrian and P 200.00 for the driver.
CTTMO representative Charlotte Parba said that it is essential that students should not be exempted to be apprehended because they need to be educated.
“Students are not exempted because we believe that it is better for the younger generation for them to be moulded into followers of the traffic rules and regulations especially in jaywalking.”
Furthermore, Parba said that following the anti-jaywalking ordinance is only for their good and safety.
For this school year, CTTMO deployed additional personnels in school areas to guide students in crossing pedestrians.
Since the Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance started its implementation on December 2, 2016, it has apprehended a total of 21,335 pedestrians as of May 31 this year.
